Ford Fiesta 1.4 ZXI TDCi India, Ford Fiesta 1.4 ZXI TDCi Review

Ford India introduced Fiesta 1.4 ZXI (TDCi) with Advanced Duratorq TDCi incorporates (Turbo Direct Common Rail Injection) with a two stage injection using Piezoelectric injectors and an Accelerometer Pilot Control (APC) that adjusts fuel injection within 0.3 milliseconds for smoother, cleaner and efficient combustion. In addition, Noise Reduction Technology (NRT) makes it one of the smoothest, quietest diesels in its class. Ford 1.4 DuraTorq TDCi (Turbo Direct Common rail Injection) motor developed jointly by Ford and PSA (Peugeot-Citroen).The Duratorq TDCi features a drive-by-wire electronic throttle and delivers 68 ps and 160 nm torque, thus ensuring a spirited and refined performance with class leading fuel economy.4 TDCi engine fitted to the Fiesta, weighing as it does a mere 98kg. The handling certainly benefits from this lightweight power plant.  The Fiesta’s all-aluminium diesel is the lightest and smallest diesel offered by Ford.

When driven back to back with the 1.4-litre petrol Fiesta, the diesel version is infinitely more desirable, the additional muscularity of the powerplant making those annoying down changes on long uphill stretches virtually superfluous. The acceleration to 60mph is a fair deal tardier at 14.7 seconds. The suspension is specially tuned to better absorb road surface disturbances and minimize discomfort to passengers. Structurally engineered to withstand severe collisions, the Fiesta’s crash worthiness is verified with over 400 virtual crash simulations. At idle the DuraTorq engine is incredibly refined when warmed up, with vibrations and noise levels lower than any other diesel. Snick the delightfully smooth and short-throw gear lever into first and there are more surprises. The Fiesta springs forwards with admirable alacrity, with the turbo kicking in from as early at 1200rpm. Max torque is developed as low as 2000rpm, which makes the car incredibly tractable for such a small motor. The strong mid-range rush of torque and the turbo’s initial responsiveness and push make the Fiesta a fantastic urban diesel.

Optimized steel strength in critical areas along with structural reinforcement, ensures passengers and the driver are intact even in a frontal offset collision. The Fiesta also features ABS (Anti-lock brake system) and EBD (Electronic brake distribution). The Car with a BrainThe Fiesta’s GEM module (Generic Electronic Module) is the equivalent of having a computer managing the car’s engine diagnostics and electrical functions. It comes with GEM sensors that oversee all critical functions.

Even the parcel shelf at the rear is now huge, reason enough for Ikon owners who swore every time their tissue box fell off to upgrade. The console between the front seats runs the full length of the passenger compartment and reveals smartly-positioned cupholders, trinket trays, ashtray and pen stowage locations. Other stowage areas include a central and passenger side stowage shelf, side door stowage and cup holders in the rear centre armrest. The door pockets too are huge and large enough for a big bottle. The Fiesta comes with luxuries that include leather upholstery, 6 CD changer with speakers, power mirrors, hydrographic finish, silver accents on AC vents and steering, leather steering, reading lights and climate control with a variable displacement AC compressor. Ford is using a powerful 160cc scroll-type compressor, which is smoother than the conventional piston-type that tends to cycle in and out during idle. It has a powerful grille, a muscular bonnet, flared wheel arches, meaty side panels and ornamental headlamps and tail-lamps.
